Devil May Cry 5 is easily the biggest release of March. The legendary series has finally come out of hiatus after a heavily demonised reboot way back in 2015. Early reviews are showing that Dante is back with a bang, so the obvious question on everyones mind is (as always) – Is there going to be a Switch version?
Nintendo’s dinky hybrid has shown it has a surprising amount of ‘oomf’ with titles like Doom, Wolfenstein and Warframe all being ported with resounding success, so what is holding Capcom back from giving us a DMC 5 port? Simply put, Capcom want money. Lots and lots of money. Capcom have stated that –
If Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen sells well on Switch, then we might consider porting DMC 5.Capcom
So in a disappointingly common trend in gaming, a developer wants you to buy a completely unrelated game for the chance of a port. Let’s not kid ourselves here, this comes across as a veiled attempt to sell a pipe dream. ‘Might’ and ‘consider’ scream as ‘we are not’ and ‘porting DMC5 to Switch’ in my eyes.
As to why a Switch port was not in the works to begin with, Capcom explain that –
We started the development of DMC 5, while we didn’t have the dev-kits [for] the Switch. Because of that we concentrated on the PS4, Xbox One and PC version.Capcom
Unfortunately I am a rather big fan of Dragons Dogma, so I will likely be picking it up. But are you picking up Dragons Dogma on Switch? Are you picking it up so coerce Capcom into Porting DMC5? Do you think this is a dastardly ruse? Let me know down in the comment section below.
