Nintendo Announce Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s First European Smash Ball Team Cup

A month has passed since the release of Nintendo’s premier fighter – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With excitement for the title reaching fever pitch, Nintendo have dropped a bombshell – the European Smash Ball Team Cup.

Come one, come all, and smash your way to glory! Nintendo is looking for the 12 best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate squads from across Europe to duke it out in the first-ever European Smash Ball Team Cup, culminating in a live final this spring to crown the continent’s winner.

To determine the first national and European Super Smash Bros. champions, teams of three will battle it out in three Stock matches with no items – except for the powerful Smash Ball, which can turn up at any time to seal an emphatic victory or give the underdogs a chance to turn the tables and snatch a win. The match types in this best-of-five will consist of 2v2 Smash, Smashdown and 3v3 Squad Strike.

Any team bold enough to join the competition can take part in their national qualifiers, rolling out over the coming months in the following territories:

  • United Kingdom & Ireland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Spain
  • Portugal
  • Italy
  • Russia
  • Netherlands
  • Belgium
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • The Nordics, comprising Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden

If your plucky band of amigos manage to win at your qualifiers, you and fellow squads from all 12 territories will advance to the final this spring. The last team standing will then be crowned the European Smash Ball Team Cup 2019 Champions.

Further details about the finals will be revealed shortly. Keep an eye out for that and in the mean time you better hop in the lab and master those combos!
